While free ice cream is always welcome, not even the Communists at Ben and Jerry's give their product away for free.

Agree with Vita Beata that you should decide the paywall issue. I certainly won't think it is "unfair" just because at some point I put some money in the hat. I would suggest a caveat though. Collect data for a bit and see what gives you the greater return and then go that route. To add to Vita's comment about fairs; a character in one of Alma Boykin's fiction novels said something along the lines of life is not fair, the fair is where you go to get deep fried food on a stick.

Bottom line is do what offers you the best return, a person has got to eat. I will continue to support because I find your writing enjoyable, thought provoking, and informative.

I will continue to support your work, regardless of whether you have a paywall or not. I’ve enjoyed your writing for years, and am happy that I’m finally able to support that writing!

"The fair's in August" .. stock reply to shouts of "Not fair!"

JulietteO, you are the creator who'll know whether to paywall or not.

I'll read with paywall or no paywall.

I am happy to be a paying subscriber even if all your writing were to be available for free, I wouldn't feel cheated. As to what is the wise thing to do, I don't know. I can offer this: usually to the two polar extremes are not the best choices when there is a spectrum. In this case it would imply that a mixture is best, so maybe some free stuff to draw in readers who don't know yet it is worth not only their time, but their dime, but certainly not everything being free - to encourage the consumers to make it worth your while.
